The US State of Texas is pressing charges against 18 Nigerian nurses and several others for allegedly obtaining their educational credentials through fraudulent means. The Texas Board of Nursing revealed that the nurses were reportedly involved in a grand fraudulent diploma and transcript scheme, which enabled them to obtain nursing credentials used for their national nursing board exams. The charges filed against the nurses are not final disciplinary actions, and they are allowed to work pending the outcome of the charges.
The nurses from Nigeria implicated in the scandal include individuals such as Abiodun Yetunde Felicia, Adelakun Abiodun Aveez, and Afolabi Omowunmi F. Other non-Nigerian nurses included in the list are Abanda Jacob Atambili and Asanga Albert Nshanui.
The Board has declared that it will continue to update the list as more information about the fraudulent diploma and transcript scheme becomes available.
The scandal has raised concerns about the authenticity of professional qualifications, and it is imperative for regulatory bodies to take stringent measures to maintain the integrity of the healthcare profession.
