Rodrigo De Paul, the Argentina midfielder, has expressed his constant desire to have Lionel Messi in the team, as the Inter Miami forward brings a sense of ‘peace of mind’ to the squad.

De Paul made these comments following Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay in Thursday’s World Cup qualifier.

Messi was substituted into the game in the 53rd minute, replacing Julian Alvarez.

Nicolas Otamendi scored a goal in the third minute to set the tone for Argentina against Paraguay, but Messi’s introduction certainly brought stability to the team.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner completed a total of 24 passes with 74% accuracy, and came close to scoring with a freekick that hit the woodwork.

Speaking after the match, De Paul said (via AlbicelesteTalk), “We always miss him, we always want to have him on the field.

“It’s a pleasure for me to turn around and pass the ball to him, being able to give him an opportunity.

“He brings us a great sense of tranquility. I hope he returns for the next game because with him, everything is better.”
