The entire team of the Spanish club, Barcelona, including their star player Lionel Messi, has been placed under quarantine due to the coronavirus outbreak.
This development follows shortly after the confinement of their rivals, Real Madrid’s squad, as a result of a positive coronavirus case in the club’s basketball team at their training headquarters.
As a result, Barcelona have suspended all activities until further notice and instructed the players to follow individual fitness programs at home.
This decision was made following a meeting attended by club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and a group of medical professionals on Friday.
In an official statement, Barcelona announced, “Given the health situation and following the recommendations of the Club’s medical managers, the first soccer team suspends all its activity until further notice.”
The Spanish LaLiga has also been suspended for two weeks due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus.
