A young woman has denied failing to stop and help after she allegedly crashed her car into the bedroom of a grandmother and killed her.
Police allege Batoul Sleibi el Dirani was speeding at more than 45km/h over the speed limit on the morning of October 8 when she ploughed into a home in the western Sydney suburb of St Marys.
Just before 5.30am,her Jeep Grand Cherokee allegedly collided with a room where grandmother Robyn Oxley was sleeping. The 62-year-old died at the scene.
Ms el Dirani was uninjured in the crash, police confirmed.
Police claim the 29-year-old did not render assistance after the fatal crash, despite knowing the collision had killed or grievously injured a person.
Instead, police allege she tried to flee the crash on Monfarville St.
Less than two hours after the fatal crash, Ms el Dirani allegedly assaulted a senior constable in the execution of his duty.
She was arrested three hours after the alleged assault and taken to Nepean Hospital, where she allegedly assaulted another police officer.
The Colyton resident was charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and failing to stop and assist after the fatal crash.
She is also facing two charges of assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty.
Ms el Dirani has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
She was represented by a lawyer in Penrith Local Court on Friday, and the court was told the charges would proceed.
The court was told the brief of evidence has been served for the two assault charges, although there were some “outstanding” elements.
Magistrate Geoffrey Hiatt set the matter down for a defended hearing in November.
There will be two witnesses for the prosecution and one witness for the defence, the court was told.
The driving matters will return to court in April to be certified before proceeding to the next stage.
Under the stringent bail conditions, she is forbidden from occupying the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
