According to reports from Marca, Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema is eager to return to European football, and Manchester United are eyeing a potential signing this month.
In June of last year, Benzema ended his 14-year stint with Real Madrid to join the Saudi Pro League side on a reported three-year deal worth £86 million per season.
The 36-year-old has been in prolific form in the Middle East, netting 12 goals in 20 appearances. However, recent issues have surfaced for him in Saudi Arabia.
Benzema failed to report for the start of Al-Ittihad’s pre-season campaign last Friday, resulting in the team traveling to Dubai without him over the weekend.
Head coach Marcelo Gallardo has instructed Benzema not to reunite with his teammates, casting doubt on the player’s future with the club.
Manchester United is among the clubs vying to provide the former Ballon d’Or winner a pathway back to Europe, with the Premier League outfit anticipating a response from Benzema in the coming weeks.
