A retired Olympian and popular reality TV star whose transgender saga has gone viral on the internet is Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn Jenner.

The gallant 6ft 2in Bruce Jenner was born in Mount Kisco, New York City on October 28, 1949 with the birth name Bruce Williams Jenner to parents – William Hugh Jenner and Esther Ruth Jenner. He has two sisters Lisa and Pam and a brother Burt whom they lost in 1976 in a car accident. Jenner spent his childhood days in New York and went to Sleepy Hollow High School where he did his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Newton High in Connecticut to complete his junior and senior years. After graduating in 1968, he earned a football scholarship that allowed him to attend Graceland College in Iowa, where he graduated with a degree in physical education in 1973.

Jenner’s interest in track and field events came as a suggestion from her coach during her college days who advised her to make the switch after suffering a knee injury which affected her performance as a footballer. . His first competition dates back to 1970 when he participated in the decathlon during a relay race in Iowa in which he came out in 5th position. The Olympian continued to break records in most of his races and in 1974 he took first place in the men’s decathlon events and made the cover of Track & Field News magazine. In 1975 he won a gold medal at the Pan American Games and broke a record set by athlete Avilov at the triangle games in Eugene which had participants from the United States, of the USSR and Poland. His Olympic career ended after the 1976 Olympics in Montreal where he set a new record for decathlon games but officially declared after the games and his victories that he would not return to the track, which is why he gave his best at all the events he took part in.
The retired athlete ventured into TV shows in the 1980s, some of which were disasters like the comedy Can’t Stop the Music. Jenner has also featured in the film The Golden Moment: An Olympic Love Story and Grambling White Tiger. He made an appearance on the police sitcom Chips and he was in video game videos like Olympic Decathlon and Bruce Jenner’s World Class Decathlon.
