Tragically, this unfortunate event occurred just four months after Dean’s engagement to her boyfriend of four years, Luke Chase Volker.
Charlbi Dean is survived by her parents, Johan and Joanne Kriek, and her brother Alexi Jacobs Kriek.
Born and raised in Cape Town, Dean’s career started with modeling in her childhood. She made her film debut in 2010’s Spud and reprised her role in the movie’s sequel. She also had a recurring role as the villain Syonide in Black Lightning. Additionally, Dean played the lead role in Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness, a film that received critical acclaim at Cannes and has been generating Oscar buzz since its premiere.
Her final acting role was in Ruben Östlund’s shipwreck satirical comedy Triangle of Sadness, where she portrayed model Yaya opposite Woody Harrelson. The movie is set to release in US theaters on October 7 and in UK theaters on October 28.
