Dancing With The Stars pro Cheryl Burke is ready to turn over a brand new leaf in 2023. Last year, she finalized her divorce and officially retired from her long-running spot on the dance show. Now, the sky is the limit.

Although Cheryl and her ex, actor Matthew Lawrence, did finalize their divorce, they still had a few things to hammer out. For instance, they couldn’t seem to agree on a custody arrangement for their dog, Ysabella. As TV Shows Ace previously noted, they would have to go to court if they couldn’t settle things on their own.

What exactly does that look like for the former spouses?

Cheryl Burke & Matthew Lawrence settle custody of their dog

It was nearly a year ago that Boy Meets World star Matthew Lawrence and dancer Cheryl Burke announced their split. As of 2023, they’ve both gone their separate ways. Cheryl is exploring the world after leaving professional dance while Matthew recently started dating TLC member, Chilli.

But even so, both of them love their dog, Ysabella and neither wanted to part ways with her. At long last, that’s come to an end.

TMZ reports that court records indicate that Cheryl Burke and Matthew Lawrence settled the custody issue before the matter went to court.

“As of now … it looks like Cheryl is going to play dog mom to the pooch, as she was awarded all ownership rights — with ML agreeing to give up all docs/data pertaining to Ysabella, including the title of ‘pet parent’ for their once-shared Home Again service,” TMZ writes. “There was a trial that was scheduled to take place soon if they didn’t squash this, and it looks like they did that just in the nick of time — with all discovery now being withdrawn.”

DWTS dashes the dancer’s dreams of being a judge

When Cheryl Burke announced her retirement as a pro dancer, she said she would like to come back as a judge. Head judge Len Goodman also chose to leave the show after 31 seasons. However, it doesn’t seem like those dreams will come to fruition. The show’s exec team reportedly turned down her wish to fill in Len Goodman’s shoes.

“They are very well aware that I would have loved to do that with the family. However they do not see a place for me, whether that be at the judges’ table or a possible co-host,” Cheryl said on Chris Jericho’s podcast. “You know what? That is okay. I am grateful for the experience. I am going to move forward.”
