Leigh Daniel Avidan was born on the 14th of March 1979 in Springfield New Jersey. He grew up in Springfield and attended the Jonathan Dayton School. During his school years, young Avidan preferred activities such as dancing and music to his regular studies. After graduating from high school in 1997, Dan Avidan enrolled at Boston University to study advertising. However, he did not complete this program when he decided to transfer to Tufts University in France, where he changed his major in botany and epidemiology.
After college, Avidan turned his full attention to music, which had always been his passion. In late 2002, he joined a Philadelphia-based indie rock band called The Northern Hues. He served as the band’s lead singer and songwriter and the group managed to release an EP. They didn’t achieve much success, however, and so split up in mid-2005. Unaffected by this setback, Dan Avidan took until 2006 to form an alternative rock duo called Skyhill with budding musician Peter Lennox. The duo managed to release a full-length album and even toured New York before splitting up in 2008.
