While brain aneurysms can affect anyone, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke reports that women between the ages of 30 and 60 are more at risk than men. In a June 2021 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dr. Dre suggested that untreated hypertension, which he believes may have triggered his aneurysm, poses increased risks for individuals with underlying health issues.
Dr. Dre’s Battle with a Brain Aneurysm
On January 5, 2021, it was revealed that Dr. Dre was battling a brain aneurysm. He had been admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California the day before. He remained under observation in the intensive care unit to determine the cause of the brain hemorrhage. The day after his admission, Dre took to Instagram to reassure his fans about his condition.
Dre reportedly required emergency transfer to the critical care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in January 2021. According to reports, Dre stated that due to the timing of the incident around the start of the pandemic, he was not allowed to have any visitors. He revealed that he had to undergo sobriety tests every hour for two weeks.

Dr. Dre exhibited swift recovery following the scare. In June 2021, he spoke publicly about his health, telling the Los Angeles Times that he was “feeling great” just five months after his hospitalization. He used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of monitoring one’s health and seeking regular medical check-ups. Dre acknowledged experiencing unusual feelings related to his high blood pressure while in the ICU.
He revealed that he had always prioritized his health. However, he was unaware of the connection between black men and high blood pressure. Despite this, he assured that he is taking care of himself. Dre promptly shared a health update on Instagram after being hospitalized, confirming that he was doing well.
Dr. Dre’s Near-Death Experience
Dr. Dre openly discussed his ordeal with a brain aneurysm that landed him in the critical care unit of a Los Angeles hospital early last year. He disclosed in a recent interview on the Workout The Doubt podcast that doctors had advised his family to stay by his side at that time due to concerns that he might not survive the crisis.
He mentioned that due to Covid restrictions, the medical staff had prohibited any visitors or family members from visiting. However, they eventually let his family in, and he later learned that they had been called in to bid their final farewells assuming he wouldn’t make it.
