INXS have become one of a handful of Australian bands to achieve one billion streams for a single song.
And the renowned rock band reached the amazing milestone thanks to English pop star Dua Lipa, who credited INXS songwriters, the late Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss, for her 2020 global hit Break My Heart.
Lipa, 26, credited the two Australian music artists as Break My Heart features a guitar riff that is similar to the famous hook in the 1987 INXS single Need You Tonight.

‘It was one of those funny things where you write something and you think it’s so cool and then you leave the studio and suddenly think ‘F …! You didn’t come up with this first,’ the songstress told NCA last year.
Lipa recalled how she made contact with the team who looked after the publishing rights for Hutchence and Farriss’ to give the pair a songwriting credit.
‘So obviously we contacted their team and came to an agreement to sample the track which is really cool. That’s really bringing the future and the nostalgia together,’ she said.

The connection had fans of the pop icon rushing to listen to INXS’ Need You Tonight, which greatly helped to boost the song’s streaming numbers.
Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss are now the first heritage artists to land on The 1,000,000,000 List, determined by the Australian songwriter’s body APRA, since it was launched in 2019.
Farriss said he felt ‘fortunate’ for the recognition of his contribution behind Lipa’s Break My Heart.
