The Confessor class is one of the starting options in Elden Ring. Like past FromSoftware games, the class will give players an edge during the early portions of the game, but becomes less relevant further in. Still, the Confessor offers a great balance of melee fighting and divine spells no matter at what level.

A starting class does not limit what a character in Elden Ring can become. However, it may not be until the late game that players have enough runes and items to make a build they truly want. Unlike Dark Souls, one may spend 15-25 hours exploring the Lands Between with only their starting gear.

What sets the Confessor apart from other classes in Elden Ring is the starting equipment. The Broadsword is a well-balanced weapon that players may wield even through mid-game (if not maining for the entire journey). Their Finger Seal allows them access to Incantations very quickly: their two starting spells of Assassin’s Approach and Urgent Heal lets the Confessor open tough fights with an ambush and recover quickly, respectively.

Confessor Stats in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Classes

The nice thing about Confessor in Elden Ring is that they start with high Faith, along with balanced Strength and Dexterity. However, their Vigor is a bit low, making it important to boost right away to at least 20 or more. From there, players will want to level up Strength and Dexterity high enough to hold their weapons in either one or two hands, then increase whichever of the two grants more damage to 40. Mind, Endurance, and Faith should be focused on as needed, mostly to meet minimum requirements, allow at least three medium speed rolls, and allow several uses of spells. A good stat spread at various milestones includes:

Level 30 stats

  • Vigor: 20
  • Mind: 13
  • Endurance: 10
  • Strength: 22
  • Dexterity: 12
  • Intelligence: 9
  • Faith: 14
  • Arcane: 9

Level 60 stats

  • Vigor: 24
  • Mind: 15
  • Endurance: 15
  • Strength: 35
  • Dexterity: 12
  • Intelligence: 9
  • Faith: 20
  • Arcane: 9

Level 90 stats

  • Vigor: 30
  • Mind: 16
  • Endurance: 20
  • Strength: 40
  • Dexterity: 20
  • Intelligence: 9
  • Faith: 24
  • Arcane: 9

Confessor Weapon and Seal Options in Elden Ring

Due to having equal amounts of Strength and Dexterity, players are open to using a mix of swords, daggers, and even bows as their main Elden Ring weapons. Some natural two-handed weapons are also good options, though using them in just one hand is probably a safer option. A shield can add a good amount of protection when rolling isn’t safe, and a Scared Seal is good in either the left or right hands, mostly depending on the actual spell and if players want to use incantations more while swinging their weapon or while the weapon is sheathed.

Confessor Spells, Spirits, and Abilities in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Lone Wolf Ashes

After selecting equipment in Elden Ring, it is important to then flesh out the Confessor’s abilities. As they are armed with a Sacred Seal, divine Incantation spells should be a high priority. However, unless one builds up extra mind they will unlikely be an Elden Ring Confessor’s main form of attack. To further assist players, various Ashes of War should be applied to weapons. These not only change scaling, but may also alter weapons or offer a new skill on the equipment. Last, Spirits are very important when playing solo, as many of the summons can distract enemies while contributing good damage.

Incantations

  • Black Flame: throw a black ball of fire, learned from Godskin Prayer Book
  • Lord’s Heal: Massive heal to self and those around, learned from Two Finger’s Prayer Book

Spirit Ashes

  • Archer Ashes: Three followers, wields basic bows
  • Skeletal Militiaman Ashes: Two followers, spear-wielding skeletons that attempt to respawn if killed
  • Fanged Imp Ashes: Two followers, throw pots filled with magic
  • Wandering Noble Ashes: Five followers, zombie nobles armed with various gear
  • Godrick Soldier Ashes: Two followers, one a shield vanguard and the other a crossbow
  • Greathshield Soldier Ashes: Five followers, use heavy shields and ghostflames

  • Banished Knight Oleg: Single follower, fights with dual long swords
  • Kiaden Sellsword: Single follower, powerful fighter with a curved cleaver

  • Lhutel the Headless: Single Follower, armed with lance and shield
  • Night Maiden and Swordtress: Two Followers, dagger-wielding sisters
  • Omenkiller Rollo: Single Follower, dual-wields heavy weapons

While all of these equipment and skills are great options, remember to switch them around and be more versatile. Every boss in Elden Ring has various strengths and weaknesses. This makes it very important to not become stubborn and only use the same strategy for each encounter.
