Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag’s assistant manager, Mitchell van der Gaag, has confirmed that he is not interested in becoming Ajax’s new coach.

Following the dismissal of Mauric Steijn on Monday, Ajax is in search of a new manager.

Louis van Gaal had singled out Van der Gaag as the perfect candidate to replace Steijn.

Ajax has inquired about the possibility of activating an escape clause in Van der Gaag’s United contract and the compensation package involved.

However, Ajax will not be pursuing Van der Gaag, as the 51-year-old has made it clear that he intends to remain loyal to Ten Hag.

Van der Gaag has become an important confidant for Ten Hag since working as his assistant at Ajax for two years before following him to Manchester in the summer of 2022.
