In a surprising turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero has revised his stance on the world’s best defender, choosing Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez over Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

Romero, who played a crucial role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup victory, was previously asked about the Premier League’s top defender.

Initially, the 25-year-old selected Van Dijk, followed by his national teammate Martinez.

However, Romero has now changed his position, disregarding Van Dijk and instead proclaiming his compatriot Martinez as the best defender in the Premier League.

During an interview with Amazon Prime, Romero stated, “Licha (Lisandro Martinez). He, in my opinion, is unquestionably the best defender in the world.”

Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax last year and has become a key player under manager Erik ten Hag.
