Eugene Mulgrew Obituary, Death – Barnegat Township Police Chief Keith A. Germain and Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer jointly declared the following on November 2, 2023: Michael Mulgrew, 34, of Barnegat, was indicted on two counts of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a weapon. The charges stem from the stabbing deaths of Mulgrew’s parents, Cheryl Mulgrew, 69, and Eugene Mulgrew, 71, both of Barnegat.
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on November 2, 2023, Barnegat Township Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence on Lincoln Avenue in support of medical personnel conducting a mobile outreach at the location. While approaching the residence, the officers noticed a male individual exiting the premises. When officers arrived at the residence, they observed a crimson stain on the front door that seemed to be blood. When the officers entered the residence, they discovered blood in numerous locations. Upon entering the bedroom, the officers discovered the lifeless corpses of two individuals who had sustained apparent upper torso stab wounds. Subsequent investigations identified the victims as Cheryl and Eugene Mulgrew. Additionally, the officers discovered a knife in the room’s proximity.
Barnegat Township police officers observed the male individual who was initially observed walking away from the residence in the vicinity of West Bay Boulevard and Gunning River Road. Subsequently identified as Michael Mulgrew, that person was apprehended without commotion.
Michael Mulgrew was found guilty of the homicides of his mother and father, according to an investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Barnegat Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit. Mulgrew was formally charged and subsequently transferred to the Ocean County Jail, where he is currently incarcerated pending the outcome of a detention hearing.
