At 85 years old, Italian fashion mogul Giorgio Armani has stepped up to contribute $1.4 million in support of Italy’s battle against the coronavirus outbreak.

The philanthropic gesture from the $6.7 billion net worth entrepreneur went to three hospitals in Milan, Rome’s Spallanzani hospital, and the Civil Protection Agency, as confirmed by a company spokesperson.

This announcement follows Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s declaration of a nationwide lockdown due to the escalating spread of the coronavirus, causing Italy to become the worst-affected country in Europe.

“All measures from the red zones are now enforced across the entire national territory,” Prime Minister Conte declared in a press conference, also revealing a prohibition on all public events until the following month.

Italy currently ranks third in the world for the highest number of coronavirus cases, trailing behind China and South Korea.
