Dashcam footage has captured the moment a man sped through a red light at 160km/h, colliding with two cars and killing his friend in the passenger seat.

Matthew Dyer, 45, was jailed for 10 years and three months during a sentencing hearing in the County Court of Victoria on Thursday.

His friend Nicole Woollard, 39, was sitting in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash in Ferntree Gully on August 27, 2022.

She died at the scene.

A police patrol vehicle that witnessed the car speeding down Ferntree Gully Road at 94km/h captured the 60 seconds leading up to the horror crash on their dashcam.

Mr Dyer’s silver Saab can be seen flying past the patrol officers, who quickly make a U-turn and begin their pursuit.

They sped up to catch him, but Mr Dyer had reached a speed of 160km/h and driven straight through a red light at the intersection of Cambden Park Parade.

Police watched on as his car slammed into a ute and 4WD turning through the intersection, sending all three vehicles spinning out of control.

Mr Dyer walked away from the crash scene and was spotted looking in disbelief at Ms Wollard through her window.

During the course of the hearing, it was revealed that Mr Dyer had not held a drivers licence in almost a decade.

Blood tests taken on the evening of the crash found high levels of methylamphetamine, as well as alcohol, in his system.

Mr Dyer plead guilty to all of his charges including driving causing death and reckless conduct endangering life.

He has already served more than a year of his sentence and will be eligible for parole in seven years and six months.
