During the proceedings on Wednesday, June 28, it was disclosed that Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy allegedly made a statement to a young woman, implying that he had been involved intimately with a large number of women, before a reported incident of sexual assault.
A jury heard that the 28-year-old is facing accusations of assaulting a 24-year-old woman in October 2020 at his £4 million property in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, as reported by the BBC.
He is also alleged to have attempted to assault a 29-year-old woman at his home two years earlier.
The footballer, currently on trial at Chester Crown Court, vehemently denies both allegations.
Trial Judge Stephen Everett, the Recorder of Chester, informed the six women and six men on the jury that Mendy had previously been acquitted of similar charges after a trial concluded in January this year.
He clarified to the jurors that the earlier jury was unable to reach a verdict on the two charges, leading to the ongoing re-trial specifically regarding the allegations of rape and attempted rape.
