Roma legend Francesco Totti recently disclosed that the breakdown of his marriage with ex-wife Ilary Blasi resulted from her lack of support after his retirement from football and the passing of his father due to Covid-19.
Totti tied the knot with former showgirl and TV presenter Blasi in 2005, and they share three children. The couple announced their separation in July 2022.
During a candid revelation, the 45-year-old, who retired from football in 2017, admitted to struggling without being on the pitch and grieving his father’s Covid-related demise.
Totti expressed that his wife failed to provide him with the comfort and support he needed during this challenging period.
Speaking to Corriere della Sera, Totti revealed, “I have lived through a difficult period, first because I stopped playing and then my father died due to Covid. I also had a strong Covid for 15 days. However, my wife, when I needed her most, was not there.”
Following their separation, speculations arose regarding Totti’s fidelity, as he has been seen with a new partner, Noemi Bocchi.
However, Totti rebutted the notion, asserting that he was the victim of infidelity. He disclosed, “It is not true that I was the first to betray. I said I was not going to speak and I did not, but I have read too many hoaxes in recent weeks. Some have even made my children suffer. In September of last year, the rumors began to reach me: ‘look, Ilary has another one. Indeed, more than one.'”
He continued, “I had never done it in twenty years, nor had she ever done it with me. But when I received warnings from different people, whom I trust, I began to suspect. I looked at her cell phone and I saw that there was a third person, who acted as an intermediary between Ilary and another.”
Totti acknowledged that discovering his wife’s infidelity severely impacted his mental health and credited Bocchi for helping him through this distressing period.
“Here was the evidence (of the affair). The facts. And that led me to depression. I could no longer pretend that nothing was happening, but it wasn’t me anymore, it was someone else. I got out thanks to Noemi,” he added.
Totti and Blasi seem headed for a legal resolution, although Totti expressed hope of reaching an agreement without going to court.
“I fear that with Ilary it will end up in court. I still hope that we can reach an agreement. Now I am silent. This afternoon, it cost me six months of life. I would have preferred a thousand times to talk about football and Roma, which I always carry in my heart,” he stated.
According to Corriere della Sera, Blasi has allegedly implied that she has revelations that could impact numerous families. The publication also indicated that the relationship between Totti and Blasi has further deteriorated since their separation.
Speculation suggests that a court hearing could be contentious, potentially leading the couple to make damaging disclosures about each other. This unpredictable situation underscores the challenges the couple faces as they navigate their separation.
