Assuring the public, the Independence National Electoral Commission has committed to organizing a transparent, equitable, reliable, and calm election ahead of the February 3rd bye and rerun elections.

During a stakeholders meeting at Professor Mahmood Yakubu Conference Hall, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bauchi State, Muhammad Nura, affirmed the commission’s dedication to ensuring a successful election process, emphasizing the similarity of the upcoming election to the 2023 general election.

Nura specified that all political parties that participated in the 2023 general election in these constituencies would be involved in the rerun election.

Furthermore, the INEC commissioner disclosed the reception and distribution of all non-sensitive election materials to the affected areas by the state office.

He also mentioned the ongoing three (3) days training of ad-hoc personnel, predominantly comprising members of NYSC, across the affected LGAs for deployment at the Polling Units.

Following the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting, where the committee members pledged to provide adequate security for the election officials, materials, and voters, Muhammad Nura assured the public of a secure election environment.

In terms of election processes, Muhammad Nura stated that the elections would utilize BVAS for accreditation, authentication, and result upload to the IReV.

In a recent development, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division nullified the victory of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, in the Ningi Central Constituency election held on March 18th, thereby ordering a rerun in 10 polling units within the constituency.

It was also announced by the REC that arrangements have been finalized to conduct re-run elections in four state assembly constituencies in the state.
