Allegedly, Israel’s goalkeeper, Boris Klaiman, has been arrested for the sexual assault of a 17-year-old Belgian student in an Athens bar while in possession of drugs.
The 32-year-old Volos shot-stopper, along with team-mate Rodrigo Escoval, was arrested after the incident occurred at around 2 am on Tuesday, April 11, in the Kolonaki neighbourhood.
According to a legal source, the alleged victim, who was on an educational trip to the Greek capital city, was approached by Klaiman at the VIP section of a bar on Skoufa Street, as reported by Greek publication Nova Sports.
The girl claimed that Klaiman then ‘lifted her skirt and touched her thighs’, prompting her to push him away. Greek authorities also reportedly found drugs in Klaiman’s possession.
In addition, Volos president Achilleas Beos terminated Klaiman’s contract along with releasing Escoval, who was detained by the police.
Klaiman, a former Hapoel Tel-Aviv goalkeeper, has denied the charges but was held for questioning and is set to face a judge on April 13.
If found guilty, the one-cap international could potentially face more than 10 years in prison.
A statement released by Volos stated: ‘By decision of the president of PAE Volos, Achilleas Beos – Boris Klaiman and Rodrigo Escoval have been left out of the team and the process to terminate their contracts has begun. ‘Their managers have already been informed.’
