On Friday, the Los Angeles Galaxy and Mexican forward, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, announced his departure from the MLS club. Hernandez, a former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker, scored a total of 39 goals in 82 matches across all competitions for the Galaxy from 2020 to 2023. However, his campaign was cut short last June due to a torn right knee ligament suffered during a US Open Cup quarter-final.

On Instagram, Hernandez expressed his gratitude and excitement for new challenges. He wrote, “Life becomes exciting when you allow yourself to change and evolve to new challenges. Thanks to everyone who was involved in my journey these 4 years. Thank you for everything @lagalaxy.”

Hernandez had a successful run with the Galaxy, being named a two-time MLS All-Star and leading the team in scoring in both 2021 and 2022 with 18 goals and 17 goals, respectively.

The Galaxy’s coach and sporting director, Greg Vanney, thanked Hernandez for his dedication and contributions to the club. Vanney stated, “In four seasons with the Galaxy, Javier was a passionate leader for our club on and off the field. We wish him all the best moving forward.”

Prior to his time with the Galaxy, Hernandez spent six Premier League seasons with Manchester United, scoring 37 goals in 103 matches. He also had loan spells at Real Madrid during the 2014-15 season, where he scored seven goals in 23 La Liga matches. He then joined Bayer Leverkusen, a German side, for the next two seasons, scoring 28 goals in 54 matches.

After his tenure in the Premier League, Hernandez played for West Ham United where he netted 16 goals in 55 matches. He later had a short stint at Sevilla before joining the Galaxy in 2020.
