In a recent podcast appearance on The Obi One, former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho disclosed that he had been accused of bullying a Red Devils player during his tenure at Old Trafford.
Arriving at Man United in 2016, Mourinho was instrumental in their League Cup and Europa League successes. He also guided the team to a second-place finish in the 2017–18 Premier League season.
However, his time at the club was marred by conflicts with players such as Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw, ultimately leading to his dismissal in December 2018.
Recalling a specific incident, Mourinho recounted, “When I was at Man United, I changed a player at halftime. I made a change at halftime; his agent was accusing me of bullying.”
Regarding another scenario involving Nemanja Matic at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho stated, “He was on the bench. I put him in at minute 45, and I took him off at minute 70. No, that’s education; that’s coaching. That is doing anything to win. I had to make a change.”
Reflecting on the changing landscape of football and the need to adapt, Mourinho added, “I laugh about these times but it is different times. Even to be a dad, you have to be a different dad to how your dad was to you. You have to change according to the world, so football is a little bit of a consequence of that.”
