During her time on the ABC daytime soap opera, All MyKelly Ripa met a certain Mark Consuelos, who was added to the show in 1995, five years after she began starring as Hayley Vaughan.
Fresh outta college, (he graduated with a marketing degree from the University of South Florida in 1994), Mark landed in New York with hopes of pursuing a career in acting. His first audition was for the role of Mateo Santos on AMC and for his screen tests he was paired with who else? Kelly.
His character would later become Kelly’s love interest, but before the plot developed to this point, the two had developed a thing for each other.
“My first impression of my wife was — she was obviously extremely beautiful — but she was really funny, really smart, really fast,” Mark told E! in 2006.
Within a year of becoming co-stars, Kelly and Mark were ready to take their relationship to the next level. They eloped on May 1, 1996, when they got married in a small chapel – Kelly has been a lifelong Catholic.
After their Vegas wedding, they flew to Rome for their week-long honeymoon. When they returned, they both continued to star in AMC until 2001 (they then returned in 2010 when they appeared in a few episodes).

While Kelly left the show to focus on her new gig – Live!, Mike continued to score roles on both the small and big screen. Ever since Kelly went live! Mike has been a favorite guest star. Mike had a guest appearance on Hope & Faith – Kelly’s next sitcom since leaving AMC in 2001. She remained on the ABC sitcom throughout its run from 2003 to 2006.
Thirteen months after the wedding was how long it took Kelly and her husband Mark to start a family together. The couple welcomed their first child, Michael Joseph, who was born on June 2, 1997. He was admitted to college in 2016.
Four years later, they welcomed their next child, a daughter named Lola Grace, born June 16, 2001. Their third and final child, son, Joaquin Antonio Consuelos, was born February 24, 2003.
Kelly often talks about her children on her Live! show. Like in a 2017 episode where she cried on set while talking to her co-host Ryan Seacrest about her son Joaquin’s dyslexia.
In 2007, Kelly and her husband established their own production company, Milojo was created from the first two letters of each of their three children. Milojo’s first project was The Streak, a feature-length documentary about the Brandon High School wrestling team and their 34 years of winning.
The Streak which premiered at the Tribecafestival film in 2008 landed an Emmy Award nomination. The company’s other projects include: Masters of Reception documentary series, Off the Rez film, short film; “The Bensonhurst Spelling Bee” and more.

Kelly’s husband, Mark, has Italian and Mexican roots from his parents. He was born on March 30, 1971 in Zaragoza (Spain) and grew up in Lebanon (Illinois).
