A $49 kitchen item from Kmart is setting social media on fire, with many eager to include it in their kitchen routine.
The five-piece fridge storage set from Kmart features one container that holds six litres, two containers that hold 2.8 litres and an additional two containers that hold 2.5 litres worth of produce.
It retails for $49.
The video, posted by TikTok user @keep_ it_ organised, garnered a lot of attention on social media clocking up 1.4 million views.
In the clip she opens the box, before placing different produce such as fresh berries, capsicum, grapes and cucumbers into the containers.
“These are the best. I actually put a little cooled boiled water in the bottom and everything stays crisp and fresh for ages,” one social media user praised.
Another joked: “Who can afford to that many capsicums? But I’m going to have to go to Kmart now.”
Another said: “Excellent idea, have just arrived here in New Zealand and have ordered some before they run out of stock. They look like good strong plastic.”
However, others felt more sceptical about the product.
“Isn’t this why we have a vegetable draw … seems to take up a lot of fridge space for aesthetics,” one person questioned.
Another said: “I could never work out which ones need air flow and which didn’t with the vents.”
One added: “Only value for money if it actually extends the shelf life of food. Just saying.”
Others who had purchased the products issued a warning for anyone interested in buying the five-piece set.
One person said: “I love them but don’t put them in the dishwasher! Hubby did and they warped.”
“PSA: don’t put in the dishwasher or they will warp and you will be sad,” another added.
According to Every Plate, a meal kit delivery service, searches for “how to reduce food waste” increased by 7 per cent in January.
Containers, for both increasing storage and freshness, have been identified as a helping tool.
