In this season’s Premier League title race, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that the Reds are still considered underdogs.

Owen also expressed his opinion that Darwin Nunez could potentially replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool in the near future.

Liverpool is currently leading the Premier League table by five points, although Manchester City has a game in hand.

Due to a hamstring injury suffered while playing for the Egyptian national team in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the key player Salah is currently sidelined.

When asked about Liverpool’s title aspirations this season, Owen stated on talkSPORT, “Being five points ahead at the top, even though they have played one more game than Manchester City, gives them a real chance.”

He added, “However, Manchester City remains the team to beat.”

Owen also remarked, “Looking towards Liverpool’s future, it is evident that Salah will not be with the team forever, especially as he is now in his 30s. Someone will need to step up or they will have to find a replacement capable of emulating his goal-scoring prowess.”

He identified Nunez as “the player in the team with the potential to achieve that, and I can see him becoming a dominant figure in the Premier League.”
