A ritzy Moonee Ponds address with a secret library and 1200-bottle wine cellar would have had the suburb’s most famous housewife Dame Edna Everage exclaiming, “Hello, possums”.
The latest in a batch of multimillion-dollar listings across the area, the renovated art deco-style house at 67A Park St with a $7m-$7.7m asking range, featuring a walk-in wardrobe “to die for” where the dame could store her many sequined dresses, sparkly glasses and purple wigs.
A total of 17 Moonee Ponds homes have sold for more than $4m in recent years, with the suburb’s $10.725m record set by 36 Ardmillan Rd in 2018, according to property records.

McDonald Upton Essendon partner Joe Zucco said he listed another house at 55-57 Park St which fetched $7m two years ago.
Mr Zucco described the tree-lined strip as “arguably Moonee Ponds’ best street” thanks to its large blocks, impressive homes and proximity to well-regarded schools.
Nearby, a house at 19 Ardmillan Rd sold for more than $7m through Nelson Alexander’s David Vaughan in March.
The whopping figures are a far cry from the 1950s when the late iconic Australian comedian Barry Humphries created his Dame Edna character who lived on the fictional Humoresque St.
In those days Moonee Ponds often made headlines for wild brawls and crime while a typical house in the suburb could be purchased for 5000-5500 pounds (equivalent to about $106,396-$117,036 today).
Mr Zucco said the “stunning” circa-1930 four-bedroom house at 67A had been renovated and extended with interiors designed by award-winning Bagnato Architecture.
Marble travertine tiling and benchtops throughout adds a touch of elegance, while the library is hidden behind a concealed door, which appears to be part of the wall it is set into.
“I’d definitely say the charisma of this house embodies the spirit of Moonee Pond,” Mr Zucco said.
The outdoor kitchen, gas fireplace and self-cleaning heated pool make the home “great for entertaining”.
The cellar has its own kitchenette and a three-car stacker is located in the garage.
“The master bedroom is a ripper,” Mr Zucco said.
“It’s just like your own private oasis in front of the fireplace and the walk-in wardrobe is to die for.”
