Andy Murray upheld his record of never losing in the Wimbledon first round with a promising triumph over fellow Briton Ryan Peniston.
The two-time champion Murray, ranked 40th in the world, began slowly against wildcard Peniston on Centre Court.
However, the Scot demonstrated his superior quality and fought off early break points, before stepping up his game and securing a 6-3 6-0 6-1 victory.
Murray, 36, will face Greek fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem in the second round.
Their match was one of several matches scheduled for Tuesday that were cancelled due to heavy and prolonged rain in south-west London.
Murray and the 268th-ranked Peniston were among the few players who were able to complete their first-round matches, as the all-British clash took place beneath the Centre Court roof.
British men’s top-ranked player, Cameron Norrie, also managed to play his opener against Czech opponent Tomas Machac indoors on Court One.
Fellow Britons Katie Boulter and George Loffhagen began their matches on Tuesday morning before being forced off the outside courts shortly after 12:00 BST.
Play was halted for several hours on day two and, with the weather not expected to improve significantly for the remainder of the evening, almost all of the day’s other matches were postponed.
