Nick Gilbert was the son of Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and his wife Jennifer.
According to reports, Nick Gilbert died on Saturday May 6, 2023 after batting neurofibromatosis (NF1), which causes noncancerous tumors to grow on the brain, spinal cord and skin.
Reports say there is no cure for the disease.

Reports from Detroit News indicate that In 2017, the Gilberts launched a foundation that has funded more than $18 million in research grants toward finding a cure for Type 1 neurofibromatosis.
Nick Gilbert died on May 6, 2023. His death was announced by the Ira Kaufman Chapel in Southfield, Michigan. The Gilberts live in Michigan.
