A gathering of the governors of the 19 Northern States under the Northern Governors’ Forum took place on Friday in Kaduna, the capital of Kaduna State.
The meeting aimed at discussing issues related to insecurity, agriculture, and oil exploration in the region. The governors also offered their condolences to Kaduna Governor Uba Sani following the accidental airstrike in Tudun Biri, Igabi LGA of the state, attributed to the Nigerian Army.
Hosted by the state governor, the gathering marked the first meeting of the governors since assuming office in the May 2023 general elections.
Attendance included Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, and deputy governors representing Jigawa, Bauchi, Kano, Yobe, and Kwara states.
Chairing the Forum, Gombe State Governor Alhaji Muhammad Yahaya condemned the accidental bomb in Kaduna and emphasized the need for collective efforts to combat the prevalent insecurity in the region.
While commending the Federal Government’s efforts, he stressed the necessity for further action by the regional governors to eradicate kidnapping, banditry, communal clashes, and terrorism in the North for the region’s development and well-being.
He assured proactive measures to ensure a thorough investigation and compensation for the victims of the Tudun Biri incident, preventing its recurrence.
Governor Uba Sani, as the chief host, also expressed concerns over the North’s insecurity and proposed the establishment of a Command and Control Centre to coordinate joint operations against terrorism and related crimes.
Moreover, the 19 northern states’ governors collectively donated N180m to the victims of the accidental bomb in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
During the maiden meeting, Gombe State Governor and Forum Chairman made the announcement and presented a symbolic cheque to Governor Sani, alongside other colleagues.
