The Osun State House of Assembly has approved a bill to increase the retirement age of judges in the Osun State High Court to 65 years. This new law also applies to the retirement age of the Customary Court of Appeal Registrars, Secretary to the State Judicial Service Commission, State Counsel in the State Ministry of Justice, State Magistrates, and District Customary Court Presidents.
According to a statement by the Director of Information, OSHA, Laide Lawal, the new law specifies 35 years in service and 65 years as the retirement age. The bill has now increased the retirement age of individuals appointed in Osun State to 65 years. It also establishes 35 years in service as the retirement age, whichever comes first is applicable.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has noted that the final copy of the bill will be produced and forwarded to the Executive Governor, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke for his assent.
