Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade received criticism after declaring their support for Zaya Wade, who came out as transgender. Gabrielle has responded to those expressing their opinions.

At the age of 12, Zaya Wade, previously named Zion Wade, expressed to her father Dwyane that she identifies as a girl. Dwyane and his wife Gabrielle Union chose to show their support by reaching out to the cast of Pose for guidance on how to best support their child.

Pose, an American drama television series, features the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles.

Dwyane also discussed his child coming out as transgender and expressed his full support for Zaya during an appearance on The Ellen Show with Ellen DeGeneres.

Gabrielle shared a video of Zaya having a conversation with Dwyane about gender nonconformity and also expressed her own support for Zaya.

However, several celebrities criticized Gabrielle and Dwyane’s support for a 12-year-old’s decision to identify as a different gender.

Celebrities such as Boosie Badazz (read here), Young Thug (read here), and Serayah openly condemned the Wades.

Gabrielle Union took to Instagram to address their opinions.

She shared a photo of herself at the beach with the caption: “Just wading thru some of these “hot takes” like 😃 🍑 My smile stays put and the fight for liberation for us all continues. Keep smiling and keep fighting 🤗 Good day good people #StopAssumingFactsNotInEvidence”
