The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County plans to launch a double-decker bus pilot demonstration for three weeks, starting in early December.

There will be no farebox on the bus, so customers will ride free and not have to pay for service on this bus during the demonstration.

RTC says it plans to evaluate how the bus operates on services such as the RTC's RAPID Lincoln Line, Routes 5, 7, 12, and the Regional Connector to Carson City.

Before the bus is available for service to the public, bus drivers will conduct test runs in our community to ensure safety and viability. The vehicle’s height and weight will also be taken into consideration as different routes will be used as part of the demonstration. The bus must also be able to clear overpasses and not strain roadways not designed to handle the extra weight.

The bus is scheduled for service from Monday to Friday for the next two weeks.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 4th Street Station at 6:47am to do an outbound to Carson City on the Regional Connector
  • Little Lane at NDOT at 7:45am to do an inbound to 4th Street Station
  • 4th Street Station at 9:15am to do an outbound Route 7
  • Echo Avenue & Moya Blvd at 9:54am to do an inbound Route 7
  • 4th Street Station at 11:00am to do an outbound Route 5
  • Sun Valley Blvd & E 7th Avenue at 11:23am to do an inbound Route 5 to 4th Street Station
  • 4th Street Station at 12:30pm to do an outbound LINCOLN Line toward Centennial Plaza
  • Centennial Plaza at 12:43pm to do an inbound LINCOLN Line toward 4th Street Station
  • 4th Street Station at 1:10pm to do an outbound LINCOLN Line toward Centennial Plaza
  • Meadowood Mall at 2:15pm to do an inbound Route 12 toward 4th street station
  • 4th Street Station at 3:00pm to do an outbound Route 12 toward Meadowood Mall

The RTC will measure customer feedback, input from its transit contractor Keolis about the ability to operate and maintain the bus, and ridership data.
