The controversy erupted when a sixth-grade field trip ended with students pole dancing at a restaurant. The incident, which took place in Michigan on November 16, 2022, has caused uproar, with parents expressing shock after discovering that their children were taken to a restaurant associated with a stripper club. It is alleged that the students were relocated from Niki’s Pizza to the Lounge, where they engaged in pole dancing.

The trustee and parent, Andrew Weaver, went viral with his Facebook post, which included photos of the children playing on the poles and the adult lounge scene and drinks menu at Niki’s. The post quickly gained traction on social media, leading to the blocking of a controversial Twitter account by Rochester Community Schools.

In response to the allegations, the school district denied taking students to an eatery connected to a strip club. Niki’s owner, Agatha Kefallinos, stated that the school would have been aware of the seating arrangements when making the reservation and clarified that the metal poles are not stripper poles but simply part of the decorations.

Despite the denial of any wrongdoing by the school district, Weaver, who ran for trusteeship on a platform of greater transparency between schools and parents, reiterated his stance that RCS failed to address the situation adequately. He accused the district of attempting to intimidate him and highlighted previous disagreements with the district over pandemic policies and remote learning.

The district, on the other hand, denied making any threats against Weaver and emphasized the need for compliance with board bylaws and the code of cooperation. This incident has sparked a heated debate about the actions of the school district and the need for transparency and accountability in such matters.
