Simone Biles, the American Olympic gold medalist, has said ‘yes’ to her boyfriend Jonathan Owens, an NFL player. The lovebirds got engaged on Valentine’s Day, less than two years after connecting on social media.
Biles, 24, shared the joyous news on Instagram, along with adorable photos of Owens, 26, proposing on one knee.
In her post, the pro gymnast gushed, ‘THE EASIEST YES. I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! Let’s get married, FIANCÉ.’
Owens, excitedly commented, ‘Ready for forever with you.’
The football safety for Houston Texans also took to Instagram, sharing several photos and expressing his joy at waking up with a fiancée.
‘Appreciate my dawg @don_julio314 for helping me set everything up, she really had no clue what was coming,’ he added. ‘[Jeweler] @zofrost you went crazy on this one bro really made the night special.’
The ring was designed by jewelry designer ZoFrost of ZoFrost & Co, although details about its carat weight remain a mystery.
Biles, who boasts six Olympic medals, including four gold from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, has been in a relationship with Owens for two years.
The couple first connected through social media in March 2020. Narrating the cute story, Biles told the Wall Street Journal, ‘He would say I slid into his DMs. I saw him and I was like, “Oh, he’s pretty cute,” so I said hi … and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.’
Owens, in his revelation about the initial interactions, admitted that he had no clue about Biles’ status as a renowned gymnast, saying, ‘I didn’t know who she was. I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked.’
They started spending time together shortly before the pandemic, using the lockdown period to get to know each other better and form a deeper bond.
‘It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything. So we used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I’m so thankful.’
