About Stanley Myers
Stanley Myers, a Swansea native, is the third Military Judge for the South Carolina Army National Guard, and the first African-American to hold this position in the state. In addition to being a military judge, he is the managing partner and attorney at Moore Bradley Myers and a Lieutenant Colonel in the South Carolina National Guard.
Despite his impressive titles, Stanley Myers prefers to be addressed simply as “just Stanley,” attributing his humility to his roots in the Swansea and Calhoun County regions.
Myers’ dedication earned him an athletic scholarship to The Citadel, where he now serves on The Board of Visitors. As a four-year starting quarterback for the Bulldogs, he set multiple records, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from The Citadel, earned in 1998. He further pursued his education and obtained a J.D. from the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law in Washington, D.C. in 2003.
Driven by the influence of his older siblings, who instilled in him a desire to become an attorney, Myers pursued his childhood aspiration and realized it, fueled by his admiration for legal dramas such as Matlock and Perry Mason.
Family Mourns at Stanley Myers Death
The sudden death of Stanley Myers at the age of 47 has deeply affected The Citadel and the legal community in South Carolina. He is survived by his wife Tashia Myers and their two children.
Myers collapsed in his yard after returning from a run and walking his dog, according to Lexington County coroner Margaret Fisher. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead.
A 1998 graduate, Myers had played quarterback at The Citadel from 1995 to 1998 and remained actively involved, chairing the legal and athletics committees on The Board of Visitors, earning him the highest regard from his classmates and teammates, including the current Bulldogs coach Maurice Drayton, who viewed him as “the epitome of a Citadel alum” and “the quintessential Citadel man.”
