During his six decades in the entertainment industry, Caan appeared in numerous films, including “El Dorado,” “Misery,” “Brian’s Song,” and “Bottle Rocket.” Born and raised in New York City, Caan initially pursued a career in football at Michigan State University before turning to acting at Hofstra University.
Caan’s breakthrough came with his role as Sonny Corleone in the 1972 film “The Godfather,” which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He is survived by five children, including “Hawaii Five-0” star Scott Caan.
