38-year-old Yobe lecturer and his wife die two days apart

A heartbreaking incident has occurred at Umar Suleiman College of Education Gashua, Yobe State, as Dr. Barde Luka Yelwa, a lecturer in the Biology Department, and his wife, Godiya, passed away within two days of each other.

Dr. Yelwa, aged 38, tragically suffered a fatal heart attack on Thursday, April 20, 2023, while he was at the hospital caring for his ailing wife. Regrettably, his wife also succumbed to her illness exactly two days later, on Saturday, April 22.

The couple, survived by two young children, a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, has left behind a devastated community.

Just two weeks before his untimely demise, Dr. Yelwa had accomplished his Ph.D.

The burial of Dr. & Mrs. Barde Luka Yelwa has been rescheduled for Monday, April 24, 2023, with the final internment set to take place at Dagare Village, 10 Km along Bauchi-Jos Road.

Their tragic passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from friends, family, and colleagues, with many taking to social media to express their condolences. “We spoke just a few days ago after your Ph.D. accomplishment not knowing that that’s the last moment I will ever hear from you again,” lamented Comrade Joeman Joseph.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.
