Thomas Tuchel, former Chelsea coach, is expected to make a managerial comeback with FC Bayern Munich as they are on the brink of parting ways with Julian Nagelsmann.
The reigning Bundesliga champions are facing challenges in the domestic league and currently occupy the second position, trailing behind Borussia Dortmund.
Nagelsmann, who has not been present at the training ground this week, is scheduled to have a meeting with the Bayern hierarchy on Friday to receive official confirmation of the decision.
Tuchel, aged 49, has been without a job since his dismissal from Stamford Bridge in September, following the club’s change in ownership under Todd Boehly.
Having been residing in Munich for several weeks, Tuchel has previously managed Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain. The Bayern players have already been informed about Tuchel’s imminent appointment as their new manager.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tuchel is set to assume the helm of the club, having reached an agreement on a 2.5-year contract at the Allianz Arena and is expected to take charge of training starting from Monday.
Reports indicate that Nagelsmann’s dismissal is linked to the team’s performance in the league, with the board attributing direct responsibility to him for the 10 points dropped in the current season.
The German powerhouse has clinched 10 consecutive Bundesliga titles and is set to square off against Manchester City in the upcoming Champions League quarter-finals.
