BIOGRAPHY
Film, theater and television actor, Joseph H. Tobin Jr., was born on August 7, 1942 in Queens, New York, United States. He grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts, his mother is the British actress Eileen Bell. In 1947, his father, Joseph H. Tobin, built and established radio station WJDA in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Joseph studied at Boston University and has a Master’s Degree in Education from Montclair State University. He studied acting with Sanford Meisner, at the Neighborhood Playhouse, and with Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio, in New York. He is a life member of The Actors Studio and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 1979 he debuted on the big screen, with an uncredited participation, in the film Manhattan. One of his best-known performances is that of the villain “Jigsaw” in the Saw film series , for which he received MTV Award nominations in 2007 and 2009.
He has participated in films such as The Verdict (1982), Tootsie (1982) , Mississippi Burning (1988), False Identity (1990), Loose Cannons (1990), Goodfellas (1990), Ruby (1992), The Firm (1993), In the Line of Fire (1993) and several more. Among his latest projects are the films Liberty, The Rogue, Ice Cream in the Cupboard and Ghostkiller.
