Arsenal and Bayern Munich are vying to secure the signature of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi for their respective managers – Mikel Arteta and Bayern’s coach. The 24-year-old Spaniard has emerged as a prime target for both clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Last year, Arsenal’s pursuit of Zubimendi was unsuccessful. Instead, the North London club opted to allocate the majority of their summer funds towards a £105 million deal for Declan Rice.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, faced disappointment in their attempt to sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham last summer. However, they are actively seeking a new central midfielder for the next season.
Reports from Bild’s Bayern Insider podcast suggest that Zubimendi tops Bayern’s transfer wish list. Nevertheless, Arsenal is putting up a ‘serious’ challenge in the race to secure the promising midfielder’s services.
It has been revealed that Arteta has already engaged in discussions with Zubimendi, and the player is reportedly open to the idea of a potential move to Arsenal.
The midfielder currently has a release clause of €60 million in his contract with Real Sociedad.
