BIOGRAPHY
Wesley “Wes” Studi is an American and Cherokee actor and producer born in Nofire Hollow, a territory of the Cherokee tribe, in Oklahoma City. Before entering elementary school, Wes only spoke Cherokee at home. At age 17 he enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard, where he would volunteer for the Vietnam War, serving for 18 months. Upon his return, he began working as an American Indian activist, becoming involved in the dispute known as the Wounded Knee Incident. Due to his physique, Wes would be invited to appear in the television film The Trial of Standing Bear (1988), a role that would help him have his best-known role as the toughest member of the Pawnee tribe, in the Oscar-winning film , Dances with Wolves (1990). Studi has achieved a career spanning three decades, in film and television, covering more than 90 credits, including films such as The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Geronimo (1993), Fire Against Fire (1995), Mysterious Men (1999), The New World (2005), The Road (2008), Avatar (2009), Hostiles: American Violence (2017), as well as series such as Kings (2009), Hell on Wheels (2011), Penny Dreadful (2016 ), among other.
