Gamergate has never been far from controversy. Several women in the video game industry have been harassed by internet trolls. Cernovich wrote his self-published help book, Gorilla Mindset in 2015. In it, he shared his views on how women should submit to “dominant alpha males.”

He became really influential when he became part of the manosphere movement. He took his theories to the national level, falsely claiming during the 2016 US presidential election that Hillary Clinton was actually quite sick. He claimed she suffered from a ‘seizure disorder’ and Parkinson’s disease. Thanks to the magic of the internet, by September of the same year, the hashtag #HilarysHealth had become a trending topic on Twitter with 240,000 page views and its views were viewed over 100 million times.
