A shocking incident has emerged where a woman has been accused of murdering her 73-year-old mother by decapitating her with a knife and scissors, then removing her brain and later kissing it in front of a family friend.
Odessa Tammy Carey, 36, is alleged to have beaten her mother Odessa Carey to death at her residence in Ashington, Northumberland.
Following the murder, Ms. Odessa reportedly used a knife and scissors to sever her mother’s head and extract her brain, as well as make a cross-shaped incision on her abdomen.
During proceedings at the Newcastle Crown Court, it was disclosed that the accused, Ms. Odessa, had carried the severed head in a bag and brought it out to kiss it in front of a family friend.
The court learned that the headless body of the 73-year-old was discovered on her bed, while her brain was found in the bathroom of her residence. Furthermore, her head was found at a different location, concealed in a cupboard, in a house where Carey Jr was found hiding by the police.
Although the accused is facing a murder charge, she is deemed unfit to stand trial for a criminal offense due to her health condition. Subsequently, jurors will determine whether Ms. Carey committed the act of killing, but not her guilt.
Prosecutor Nicholas Lumley QC revealed that Mrs. Carey Sr, who relied on a mobility scooter for mobility, was found dead on April 8 last year.
Mr. Lumley stated: ‘In her own home, the body of Odessa Carey Sr was discovered on her bed with her head missing and her abdomen slashed open, exposing her stomach.
‘Inside the bath, blood and brain tissue fragments were found in a plastic container.
‘Moreover, implements such as large scissors, knives, and a mallet were also present.’
According to Mr. Lumley, the police located Carey hiding in a loft at an address in Guide Post, Northumberland.
He added: ‘In a cupboard under the sink at the address in Guide Post, a human head was found wrapped in a pillowcase, inside a carrier bag.’
The court heard that the day before discovering her mother’s body, Carey had taken the head to a friend’s allotment.
Mr. Lumley added: ‘She was inside his shed, wiping blood from her hands and arms using one or more baby wipes. Carrying a bag, she carefully unwrapped the contents, which were wrapped in a towel and pillowcase, and presented a human head.
‘Odessa Carey spoke, kissed her mother’s forehead, and rewrapped the head before returning it to the bag.’
The court was informed that head injuries, potentially inflicted with a mallet hammer, led to the victim’s demise.
Furthermore, Mr. Lumley mentioned that Mrs. Carey’s head was dislodged posthumously using ‘knives and scissors.’
‘Subsequently, her body was flipped over, her abdomen was slashed in the shape of a cross, and her head was transported to the bathroom for the brain extraction and subsequent cleaning of the mallet,’ Mr. Lumley continued.
Carey’s DNA was discovered on the mallet hammer handle, Mr. Lumley added.
‘The head was wrapped in the bathroom before being taken from the house.’
The trial is ongoing.
