Anthony Field: A Brief Biography

Anthony Donald Joseph Field, AM, born on 8 May 1963, is a noted Australian musician and actor. He is widely recognized for his involvement in the children’s group The Wiggles and the 1980s and 90s pop band The Cockroaches. Alongside his brothers Paul and John, Field co-founded The Cockroaches when he was still a teenager. The band recorded two albums and experienced modest success, which was briefly interrupted by Field’s military service in Australia’s regular army, until they ultimately disbanded in the late 1980s. Field pursued training in early childhood education at Macquarie University and, in 1991, he co-founded The Wiggles along with Murray Cook, Greg Page, and former bandmate Jeff Fatt. Prior to the band’s success, he worked as a preschool teacher for two years. Despite his aversion to touring, The Wiggles emerged as one of Australia’s most prosperous and active music groups. Field, recognized for wearing blue during performances, was responsible for overseeing the production aspects of their stage and television shows, CDs, and DVDs. His battles with chronic pain and depression, which nearly led to his departure from the group at the peak of their success, have been well-documented.
