While his father’s identity remains undisclosed to the public, he attended Shippensburg University, where he flourished as a football player and was recognized thrice as a DII All-American. Following his graduation, he entered the 2006 NFL draft. Although he went undrafted, he found an opportunity with the Atlanta Falcons and spent a season at Hamburg Seas Devils of NFL Europa before joining the Falcons in 2007. He played for the team until 2012, reaching a career peak in the 2009 season with 66 tackles and six interceptions. His contract with the Falcons wasn’t renewed due to an Achilles tear in 2012, leading him to become a free agent.
He then signed a one-year contract worth $5.5 million with the Miami Dolphins, displaying remarkable performance after recovering from his injury. This achievement led to a better contract with the Dolphins, worth $32 million over four years in 2014.
