BIOGRAPHY
The actress, writer and director, María Teresa Sánchez González, better known as Carmen Montejo, was born in Pinar del Río , Cuba, on May 26 , 1925. She began her career as a child on Cuban radio, in a program called Abuelita Cata. She was called the “Sanchez Doll” because of her curls. She entered the University of Havana in 1939 to study dramatic art.
After completing her studies, her parents offered her a trip to the United States, but she preferred to exchange it for a two-month visit to Mexico. In 1942 she arrived in Mexico, accompanied by her mother and her older brother. She quickly joined the cast of the radio soap opera El Diario de Susana Galván and in 1943 she debuted on the big screen with the film Resurrección (1943). That same year, director Chano Urueta offered her a character in his film No Mataras (1943), and suggested she adopt a stage name “Carmen” and “Montejo” after the name of the hotel where she had stayed upon her arrival. she.
