In a recent statement, Erik ten Hag revealed that he was cautioned against taking the Manchester United job, being told it was a daunting proposition. Despite winning the Carabao Cup in his inaugural season, the Dutchman has encountered a challenging start to his second term.
Manchester United has suffered six defeats in their first 15 Premier League fixtures and is also confronting a tough battle to secure qualification for the Champions League knockout stage with just one group game left.
Ten Hag shared, “I was repeatedly advised that I couldn’t thrive in that role. It was deemed unattainable. However, I was drawn to the challenge. I was aware it wouldn’t be straightforward, but it was an incredible club with a passionate fanbase.”
He continued, “People either adore Manchester United or stand against them. I admire clubs with such dynamics. Ajax was similar,” as reported to the United We Stand fanzine.
