Major Applewhite, the head coach of South Alabama, has been in a happy marriage with Julie Applewhite for 19 years. Julie has been a constant pillar of support for Major throughout their journey. The couple has two children, making a loving family. Major Applewhite achieved a significant professional milestone on January 18th when he was appointed as the fourth head coach of South Alabama Football.

The Director of Athletics, Joel Erdmann, announced Applewhite’s appointment for January 2024. Before becoming head coach, Applewhite served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the South Alabama Jaguars. Born on July 26, 1978, Major Lee Applewhite was a prominent college football quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. Following his playing career, Applewhite transitioned into coaching and continued to excel. Notably, he served as the head coach at the University of Houston from 2017 to 2018, leading the team to numerous remarkable victories.

Introducing Julie Applewhite, Major Applewhite’s Wife

Major Applewhite married Julie Applewhite on July 15, 2005. Julie, who was born in San Antonio, Texas, attended Robert E. Lee High School before obtaining a degree in Psychology from the University of Texas. Julie is not only a dedicated mother and wife but also a career-focused individual. Since July 2021, she has been working as a Realtor at LLB&B, Inc. Real Estate.

Prior to her current role, Julie held positions as the Client Relations Manager and professional development manager at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP. After leaving Fulbright, she gained experience in real estate by working as a realtor for H.A. Edwards, Inc. in Tuscaloosa for a year. Julie, a hardworking professional, has been a supportive influence on Major Applewhite’s coaching career.

The Couple’s Two Children

After 19 years of marriage, the Applewhites have been blessed with two wonderful children. They currently reside in Mobile, Alabama. Their first child, Lila, was born in March 2009 and is now 14 years old. In April 2016, they welcomed their second child, a son named Nash Applewhite. Julie recently shared a family photo to commemorate Major’s appointment as South Alabama’s head coach, celebrating his significant achievements.

During the 2009 Fiesta Bowl, Major Applewhite, a former assistant coach at the University of Texas, was involved in a consensual relationship with an adult student. This incident, which occurred in 2009, only came to light in 2013 when the University of Texas disclosed a separate incident involving students.
