BIOGRAPHY
Helen Elizabeth Hunt is an American actress, director and writer, born on June 15, 1963, in Culver City, California. The daughter of a photographer and a theater director, Hunt was attracted to the arts, studying ballet from a young age and began working as a child actress in the 1970s, in series such as Swiss Family Robinson (1975) , The Fitzpatricks ( 1977) and Family (1976-1980). Shortly after finishing his studies at UCLA, Hunt began taking young adult roles in the 80s and 90s, which began to give him some recognition and better opportunities, although the majority were still part of secondary and brief roles, in various occasions. But in the early ’90s, the actress would finally get a starring role and the role that would define her as a star of that period, in the successful television series Mad About You (1992-1999 ) , alongside Paul Reiser, about the life of a married couple in New York City. For her role, Helen was awarded four Emmy Awards, for best actress, in 1996, 1977, 1998 and 1999, making her one of the most popular and highest-paid actresses of the decade. Hunt also directed several episodes of the series, including the series’ final episode. Her popularity remained between the 90s and 2000, a time that saw her participate in films such as Tornado (1996), As Good as It Gets (1997), for which she won the Oscar for best actress, as well as Chain of Favors (2000) and Lo What They Want (2002). Although she briefly stepped away from acting, the actress has recently been part of series such as Shots Fired (2017), World on Fire (2019) and the updated version of Mad About You (2019).
